Use Space Heaters Safely

Electric space heaters can place an unsafe load on your home’s wiring.  If your circuit breakers  are tripping, that could be a sign that you have too many electrical appliances on a line.  One solution: add additional circuits so that you can operate your electric space heaters where you need them most.

Avoid Cold Weather Frozen Pipes

On extremely cold nights – single-digit or below zero – water pipes near the exterior of your home can freeze.  If the pipe cracks, it can lead to flooding when it later thaws.  To keep your pipes from freezing, consider adding extra insulation and keeping faucets on threatened pipes running slightly during the cold weather. If a pipe does crack, shut off the water to that line.  I you’re not sure how to handle an emergency, give us a call and we can help you out.

Carbon Monoxide Safety Tip

Carbon monoxide is an odorless, deadly gas produced by gas furnaces.  Make sure your furnace is properly vented and that your carbon monoxide detectors are working.

Three Tips to Get Ready for the Cold Weather

If Dayton weather patterns hold out this winter, we can expect our first brutally cold weather in the next few weeks – you know, single digit or sub-zero cold.  With this kind of weather, we’re not just talking uncomfortable.  We’re talking outright dangerous.

We’re also talking about weather that can really drive up your utility bills.  It takes a lot of energy to keep a home comfortable when the temperature dips into the single digits.  And sub-zero temperatures are not out of the question in Dayton, either.

How can your family be prepared for this brutal, dangerously cold weather? Here are a few things to consider now – before the single digit weather hits.

1)      Get your home’s heating system inspected and tuned-up.  This will help you know if your system is ready to keep you warm and safe during very cold weather.

2)      If your furnace is too old to keep up with very cold weather, consider replacing it now, before single-digit weather blows in.  Once that kind of weather hits, all local heating contractors – including The Problem Solvers – can get backlogged and you might find yourself in a tough situation.

3)      To keep your home’s energy costs down year-round, look into a state-of-the-art highly efficient heating and cooling system.

Winters in Dayton can be brutally cold.  Don’t take chances with your family’s comfort and safety.

A Gift From a Customer

At The Problem Solvers, we take a lot of pride in making sure we do everything possible to please our customers.  We often hear from them about how pleased they are with our service – usually in the form of an email or a note in the mail.  But every once in awhile, our customers go above and beyond to thank them.

For example, a few weeks ago, we helped a customer out with a pretty big problem.  When everything was fixed and things were back to normal for her, she stopped by our office with a gift for the technicians that helped her out – candy!  Yumm!

A big thanks from me to our outstanding technicians.  Well done – and thanks for sharing the candy!
